Tournament Rules



    The Minecraft Tech Tournament (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Step Up 4 Kids Foundation and Halo Advertising, #3, 1111 3rd Street SE, Calgary, Alberta, Canada, T2G 2S7 (the “Sponsors”). [If marketed on Facebook and Instagram add: “Not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook or Instagram”].


    This Contest is open to residents of Canada, excluding Quebec, who are legal residents in their province or territory of residence at time of entry, with the exception of employees of the Sponsors, their parents, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, departments or agencies, franchisees, suppliers, advertising and promotional agencies, contest administrators, and any other parties engaged in the development, production or distribution of Contest materials and those living in the same household.

By participating in this Contest, entrants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bound by, these Contest Rules. Entrants who do not comply with any of these Contest Rules are subject to disqualification by the Sponsors, in the Sponsors’ sole discretion.


    This Contest begins on [month] [day], [year] at [time] [a.m. / p.m.] [time zone] (the “Starting Day”) and ends on [month] [day], [year] at [time] [a.m. / p.m.] [time zone] (the “Contest End Date”) after which time this Contest will be closed and no further entries will be accepted. The sole determinant of time for the purpose of receipt of a valid entry into this Contest will be the Sponsors’ server. The end dates for each competition round are set out below in Section 4.

  2. HOW TO ENTER AND COMPETE: You can enter into this Contest by doing all of the following:
    1. Visit [URL] and entering your full contact information.
    2. Pay a $50.00 entry fee, payable by way of [state how payment may be made.]
    3. Compete in a three-round Minecraft challenge as follows:

     4. Take a screen cast of between 2-5 minutes of walkaround of what you have built for each round above and upload your video on YouTube and tag [insert tag if any to Sponsors] by the end date for each round. Uploads must be in the following format: [state any technical/format requirements].

     5. Upload your YouTube video link for what you have built for each round above to the Sponsors’ website at [URL] by the end date for each round. Uploads must be in the following format: [state any technical/format requirements].

     6. If selected as a Selected Entrant (finalist) by the Sponsors, complete one final Minecraft challenge in an eight (8) hour period as follows: [describe challenge].

Entrant information may be used for marketing. Express consent will be required to receive any commercial electronic marketing from the Sponsors other than for the administration of this Contest.

If the Sponsors receive less than [number] of entries into this Contest, then the Contest will be cancelled and all entry fees refunded to entrants.

For this Contest receipt of an Internet entry occurs when Sponsors’ server records the entry information. All entries must be complete and are subject to verification by the Sponsors, in their sole discretion whose decisions are final.

Entry Submission Guidelines:

All entries into this Contest (each, a “Submission”) are subject to the following rules:

  • Entrants grant the Sponsors an exclusive license to use their Submission for the administration of this Contest and in any advertising, marketing or publicity without notice or compensation, as may be edited, modified, or translated in the Sponsors’ sole discretion.
  • The Sponsors may determine, in their sole discretion, whether to accept any Submission and whether it will use any Submission for any purpose, including in any marketing or publicity.
  • Submissions cannot be any of the following, all of which shall be determined by the Sponsors in their sole discretion whose decisions are final:
    • Sexually explicit or suggestive, unnecessarily violent towards or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group or profane or descriptive of any dangerous activity.
    • Promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that are unsafe or dangerous or any particular political agenda or message.
    • Obscene, offensive or endorse any form of hate or hate group.
    • Defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about the Sponsors or their products or any other people, products or companies.
    • Contain trademarks, logos, intellectual property or content owned by third parties or advertise or promote any brand or product.
    • Contain copyrighted materials owned by third parties.
    • Refer to the name of any person without permission from that person for the entrant and the Sponsors to reproduce it.
    • Reproduce, whether by photograph or any other means, the image of any other person without permission from that other person for the entrant and the Sponsors to reproduce it.
    • Communicate messages inconsistent with the purpose of this Contest.

The Sponsors may require any entrant to obtain any third party consent(s) that the Sponsors deem necessary for their Submission, in Sponsors’ sole discretion, whether to satisfy intellectual property, privacy or any other applicable laws, before accepting an entrant’s Submission or using an entrant’s Submission for marketing, the administration of this Contest or any other purpose, any such consent(s) which may be required by the Sponsors being the sole obligation and expense of the entrant.

Any attempt or suspected attempt to use robotic, automatic, programmed, or otherwise, illicit means to enter into this Contest, or any other methods not authorized by these Contest Rules, for example, but not limited to, creating multiple accounts, identities, or registrations, all in the Sponsors’ sole discretion, shall be deemed as tampering and may disqualify you from entering, participating and/or winning a prize.  Entries that contain false or incomplete information are void. Entries that are late, lost, stolen, illegible, contain false information, are damaged, misdirected, mutilated, garbled or incomplete, altered or otherwise irregular or that do not conform with or satisfy any of these Contest Rules are void. Entrants grant the Sponsors a non-exclusive license to use all entries for any purpose. No correspondence will be entered into except with Selected Entrants. Proof of transmission (screenshots or captures, etc.) does not constitute proof of entry or receipt of an entry into this Contest.


    If more than [number] of entries are received, then there will be a total of three (3) prizes available to be won, each consisting of a $10,000.00 tech package consisting of [state]. If more than [number] of entries are received, then there will be three (3) prizes available to be won each consisting of: [describe prizes and approximate retail value of each]. All prizes are subject to availability.

[NOTE: I recommend that if you are requiring a cash entry fee that you do not award larger cash prizes. This structure can raise criminal offence issues under section 206(1)(e) of the Criminal Code, which prohibits games (regardless of whether they are games of chance or skill) where there are cash entries to become eligible to win larger cash prizes.]

All winners assume any and all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by entering or participating in this Contest or use or redemption of a prize. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and have no cash value. Prizes or any portion thereof cannot be combined with other discounts, promotions or special offers. The Sponsors reserve the right to substitute alternate prizes of equal or greater value if any advertised prize is unavailable at time of award.


    The odds of winning depend on number of eligible entries received and each entrants’ level of skill in competing before this Contest closes.


    On [month] [day], 2023 at [time] [a.m. / p.m.] [time zone] at [insert full address of winner selection] a panel of three (3) independent judges will choose the potential winners of this Contest (the “Selected Entrants”) based on the following criteria: (i) creativity (1-10); (ii) Redstone usage (1-10); (iii) accuracy (1-10); and (iv) Mission List Execution. In the event of a tie, the winner will be chosen by way of X. [State how any ties will be broken, which for this Contest should be skill-based and not random generated given the purchase requirement to enter.]

Number of Finalists and Selected Entrants: If at the Contest End Date 10,000 entries or more have been received, then 100 Selected Entrants will be chosen for a chance to win one of the three (3) [state type] prizes. If at the Contest End Date 1,000 entries have been received, then 20 Selected Entrants will be chosen for a chance to win one of the three (3) [state type] prizes.

If a Selected Entrant does not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive a prize and another entrant will be selected based on the judging criteria set out above from the remaining eligible entries. Before being declared a winner, a Selected Entrant will be required to: (i) sign and return the Sponsor’s Declaration of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release form (“Winner Release”) and their parent or legal guardian if a minor; (ii) if a minor, have a parent or guardian with authority to consent on behalf of the minor agree to the minor’s entry and participation into this Contest and pay the $50.00 entry fee; and (iii) comply with all other Contest Rules, all in the sole discretion of the Sponsors whose decisions shall be final.

Selected Entrants will be announced by the Sponsors online or by any other means determined by the Sponsors on [date], 2023. The Selected Entrants will be notified within one (1) business day of being chosen and will be contacted by way of the e-mail address provided upon entry into this Contest and up to three (3) attempts will be made within 36 hours following winner selection. A Selected Entrant that does not or cannot accept a prize may be forfeited and a new Selected Entrant selected based on the judging criteria set out above, in the Sponsors’ sole discretion. The Sponsors’ signed Winner Release must be received by the Sponsors no later than [date], 2023 and sent to: The Sponsors are not responsible for the failure for any reason whatsoever of a Selected Entrant to receive notification or for the Sponsors to receive a Selected Entrant’s response. The Sponsors may determine how, in their sole discretion, how any prize(s) will be awarded and redeemed.

Disputes regarding identity of entrant: If the identity of a Selected Entrant is disputed, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the Authorized Account Holder (the individual assigned to the e-mail address or, if applicable for entry, social media handle associated with the entry).  Each Selected Entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the Authorized Account Holder associated with the selected entry.


    All winners in this Contest must sign the Sponsors’ Winner Release to: (i) confirm compliance with the Contest Rules; (ii) agree to accept prizes as awarded; (iii) release, discharge and hold harmless the Sponsors, their departments and agencies, parent(s), related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, franchisees, advertising and promotional agencies, counsel, marketing partners, Facebook and Instagram (if applicable) and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, successors, sponsors, partners, licensees, subsidiaries, agents, artists, advisors, assignees, and all others associated with the administration, development and execution of the Contest (the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all manner of action, cause of action, claim or demand, loss or injury, use or misuse of a prize or any travel related thereto, and the use of the entrant’s Contest entry by the Sponsors suit, debt, covenant, contract, including legal fees and expenses, whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims based on negligence, breach of contract and fundamental breach, failure of any third party contractor or supplier used in connection with any aspect of this Contest to perform or deliver any goods or services, any act of God or any other event beyond the Released Parties’ control, any dissatisfaction of any kind by a winner with any aspect of this Contest or any prize, liability for physical injury, death, or property damage which the entrants, guests, their heirs, successors or assigns have, might have or could have suffered, by reason of or arising out of an entrant’s participation in this Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by the entrant of any prize as awarded; and (iv) indemnify the Released Parties against any loss, damage or expense, including legal fees, that any of the Released Parties may suffer or incur as a result of any non-compliance by an entrant with any of these Contest Rules or participation in this Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by an entrant of a prize and the use of a Contest entry by the Sponsors.

The Sponsors are not responsible for: (i) incorrect or inaccurate entry information which may affect a person’s ability to participate in this Contest or be awarded a prize, including, but not limited to, human error, technical malfunctions, lost or delayed entries for any reason, mail failures, omission, or any combination thereof, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (iii) lost, incomplete, delayed, mutilated or misdirected entries or Declaration and Release forms; (iv) injury or damage to an entrant’s computer or to any other individual’s computer related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading any material regarding the Contest or accepting a prize; (v) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from an entrant’s participation in this Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize, including any travel related thereto and the use of a Contest entry by the Sponsors; (vi) the security or privacy of information transmitted via computer networks or for breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer “hackers” or otherwise; or (vii) late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential winner.


    The Sponsors reserve the right to terminate or amend this Contest at any time and in any way, without prior notice. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, this Contest is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, the Sponsors reserve the right to cancel this Contest and determine the winners from entrants who entered the Contest before the cancellation date based on the criteria set out in Section 7 above.

Publicity and entrant information: By participating in this Contest, entrants consent to the use of their name, age, address, e-mail address, parental consent(s), postal code, telephone number, social media handles, comments and image, whether on videotape, photograph or any other means, for the administration of this Contest or any publicity carried out by the Sponsor, without further notice or compensation. Entrants’ personal information will only be used by the Sponsors to administer this Contest, unless entrants provide their express consent to receive the Sponsors’ commercial electronic communications. Law: This Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable Canadian federal, provincial, territorial, municipal and local laws. This Contest shall be governed exclusively by the laws of the province of Alberta and all federal laws applicable therein, including all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Contest Rules, rights and obligations between entrants and the Sponsor, and procedural provisions, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. Any dispute shall be adjudicated by the courts sitting in the City of Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Rule amendments: The Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to amend or modify these Contest Rules, or modify, cancel or suspend this Contest, without prior notice for any reason whatsoever, including, without limitation, in the event that any cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsors corrupts, or threatens to corrupt, the security or proper administration of this Contest.

Intellectual Property: All intellectual property, including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Sponsors. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or other intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsors is strictly prohibited. The Sponsors’ marketing or other partners, if any, shall also have access to and rights to reproduce, copy or otherwise use any materials generated by this Contest or any submissions or materials generated by entrants.
